He was born in Naples in 1640 to the more famous painter Andrea Vaccaro and took his first steps in his father’s workshop. Nicola Vaccaro was considered one of the leading exponents of the Neapolitan artistic milieu. Vaccaro attempted to adapt the stylistic elements of 17th-century Neapolitan tradition to the new classicist and baroque trends of a growing Arcadian orientation, proposing his own specific form of academicism, aimed at revitalising a figurative culture that had otherwise been overtaken by the new artistic currents of Italian Baroque.
