It would be very long to list so many names, from the late 16th century to the present day,
that have entered the hearts of the people of Avellino.
First and foremost, there is the figure of Father Carmelo da Giugliano, a Capuchin who
gave his soul to the people of Avellino, especially during the bombing of 1943.
When he heard at 10.55 a.m. that the city had been bombed, he went down to Avellino and did his best to treat the wounded.
Enveloped in clouds of dust from that sad day, he returned to the convent and made the convent available for the wounded.
Here in this convent a hospital was improvised and Father Carmelo used tablecloths and sheets from the friars as bandages to bind the wounds.
